The St. Bonaventure Hub for Advancing Reading & Practice (SHARP Hub, formerly known as the SBURC) is dedicated to strengthening literacy instruction and outcomes for both teachers and students. It is a renowned component of our MSED B-12 Literacy program.
Students in pre-K through 12th grades are granted the opportunity to strengthen their reading skills through programs conducted by graduate level literacy teachers. The focus of these efforts is assessment and instruction in reading.
Rooted in the belief that great readers are guided by great teachers, the SHARP Hub combines research-based strategies with hands-on practice to advance literacy across Western New York and beyond.
The SHARP Hub operates through a unique three-pronged model: on campus, in schools and virtually. This flexible “hub” structure ensures that aspiring and practicing educators gain real-world experience while students of all ages receive personalized literacy support. By blending theory with practicum-based application, the hub prepares teachers to meet diverse learning needs and empowers students to thrive as confident, capable readers.
Why the SHARP Hub?
- Practicum-driven learning: Graduate students in literacy education put knowledge into action.
- Accessible formats: Services are available in person at St. Bonaventure, within partner schools and through online platforms.
- Lasting impact: By equipping teachers and supporting students, the SHARP Hub strengthens literacy for today’s learners and tomorrow’s leaders.
Sharpening Skills. Growing Futures.
The SHARP Hub is more than a program—it’s a movement toward stronger readers, stronger teachers and stronger communities. Whether on campus, in classrooms or online, we are committed to advancing literacy through practice, partnership and passion.
