State authorization for online programs

Amendments to the Higher Education Act of 1965 include changes in regulation for state authorization for online programs.

St. Bonaventure University must be legally authorized to provide post-secondary educational instruction by certain states (or be exempt or otherwise not subject to such authorization in a state) before offering online courses or programs to students in that state. If you are not currently a matriculated student at St. Bonaventure University and you live outside of New York state, your eligibility to enroll in online courses may be restricted due to these state authorization requirements.

New York state is a member of the National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (SARA). St. Bonaventure University's membership is indicated at nc-sara.org.

The MSED in Counseling may lead to licensure and/or certification in most states, as it is a 60-credit-hour, CACREP accredited program. We strongly encourage you to contact your state’s licensure board or education certification office to verify requirements for credentials in your state.  As each state sets its own parameters for licensure and certification, it is the student’s responsibility to know and understand any additional requirements set forth in his/her state for licensure or certification (i.e. additional clinical hours, specialized coursework).
