Cellist Luis B. Castro will perform at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18, at St. Bonaventure University’s Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts.
This is the second presentation in the 2024-2025 performance season at the Quick Center and the first in its Emerging Artist Series.
Castro’s musical journey began in his hometown of Caracas, Venezuela, and has taken him around the world – to Spain, where he refined his artistry under the guidance of acclaimed German cellist Wolfgang Boettcher, to the United Kingdom, where he was recognized as a Britten Pears Young Artist in 2020, and to Italy, where he achieved third place in the Samnium International Competition in 2019 and performed on the stages of the Sull’Acqua Music Festival with the famous cellist Pablo Ferrández.
Joining him on stage will be violinist Samuel Vargas, an artist, teacher and entrepreneur; pianist Grace Betry, who has a love for music and collaboration; and flutist Betania Canas, who is also a recording artist and educator.
The evening’s repertoire will include the music of Bach, Boulenger, Mendelssohn, and others.
In addition to solo, chamber and orchestral performances, Castro recently won the soloist concerto competition at LSU with his stirring performance of Haydn’s Cello Concerto in D Major, marking another important point in his musical path.
The performance is presented in association with Friends of Good Music. The Quick Center galleries will open one hour before the performance and remain open throughout the intermission.
Tickets are $20 for adults, $18 for senior citizens and SBU employees, and $5 for students. Tickets can be
purchased online or by calling the Quick Center at (716) 375-2494.
