On April 5-8, Dr. Caitlin Smith, assistant professor of English, presented a revised dissertation chapter at the Northeast Modern Language Association Conference.

The conference paper focuses on Herman Melville’s late American Centennial epic, “Clarel: A Poem and Pilgrimage in the Holy Land.” An expanded version of this paper is forthcoming in The Routledge Companion to Herman Melville in fall 2026.
