Nicole V. SchillingAn article published in the AASA Journal of Scholarship & Practice titled “Are We Burned Out? A Multi-Year Statewide Study of P–12 Superintendents” was co-authored by Dr. Nicole V. Schilling, professor of Educational Leadership, and colleagues. The study examines burnout among P–12 superintendents, documenting patterns of emotional exhaustion, work-related fatigue, and increasing demands on leaders’ time and energy.

Using the Copenhagen Burnout Inventory across multiple years, the research identifies areas where burnout is most evident and highlights the cumulative effects of political pressures, crisis management responsibilities and expectations for constant accessibility. The findings contribute data and insight into the well-being of school system leaders amid increasing complexity in educational leadership roles. Read the article online.
