As part of its 30th anniversary performance season, the
Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts at St. Bonaventure University will welcome the award-winning Galvin Cello Quartet at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 20. The program features works drawn from diverse cultural traditions.
The concert is the fourth performance event in the anniversary season.
Formed by musicians from Brazil, South Korea and the United States, the Galvin Cello Quartet rose to prominence after winning the Silver Medal at the 2021 Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition. The ensemble continued its momentum by winning the 2022 Concert Artists Guild Victor Elmaleh Competition and joining the Concert Artists Guild roster.
The quartet takes its name from the Mary B. Galvin Recital Hall at Northwestern University’s Bienen School of Music, where three of its founding members — Sydney Lee, Haddon Kay and Luiz Fernando Venturelli — studied under renowned cello pedagogue Hans Jørgen Jensen. In June 2024, the ensemble welcomed a new member, James Baik, who also studied with Jensen.
With a shared passion for innovation and connection through music, the Galvin Cello Quartet is committed to expanding the artistic possibilities of the cello quartet. Each member brings exceptional virtuosity and distinct musical influences to the ensemble. Recent and upcoming performances include appearances at Bravo! Vail, Ravinia, the Ascent International Cello Festival, Newport Classical, Merkin Hall and the Walton Arts Center.
Presented in association with Friends of Good Music, this special performance continues the Quick Center’s longstanding commitment to artistic excellence and cultural diversity.
The Quick Center’s galleries will open one hour before the concert and remain open through intermission.
Tickets are $20 for adults, $18 for senior citizens and SBU employees, and $5 for students.

In addition to its Quick Center concert, the Galvin Cello Quartet will engage with students and community members through a series of masterclasses and special performances, including a high school masterclass at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 19; an evening performance at 8 p.m. in the university’s Rathskeller; and a St. Bonaventure University masterclass at 12:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 20.
Both masterclasses will be held in the Rigas Family Theater at the Quick Center. The classes are free and open to community members and St. Bonaventure University students. To register, please send an email of interest to quick@sbu.edu.
