Nursing programs at St. Bonaventure University have been granted accreditation by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.

 

“We’re thrilled to be accredited by CCNE,” said Connie Perkins, Ph.D., RN, CNE, founding director of nursing at St. Bonaventure. “Prospective nursing students can now be assured that by attending St. Bonaventure they will be part of a high-quality program that not only meets, but exceeds, CCNE’s high standards of educational excellence.”

 

Part of the School of Health Professions at St. Bonaventure, the Department of Nursing offers two baccalaureate degree programs:

• RN to B.S. in nursing, an opportunity for registered nurses to earn a Bachelor of Science in nursing
• Dual Degree Nursing Program, a program in which students earn an Associate of Applied Nursing from Jamestown Community College and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from St. Bonaventure 

The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education is an autonomous accrediting agency officially recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education. Accreditation by CCNE ensures the quality and integrity of baccalaureate, graduate, and residency programs in nursing by holding them accountable to industry and community standards, evaluating their success in achieving goals and outcomes, and fostering continued improvement.

 

Earning CCNE accreditation is the result of careful planning of the university’s nursing team, said Perkins. “Not only did we achieve this status, but we were awarded accreditation for the maximum term allowable (through fall of 2025), with no compliance concerns with respect to key elements of accreditation standards,” she said. “Now, as a CCNE school, our focus is on continuous evaluation and improvement of programs so as to maintain accreditation to 2025 and beyond.”

 

Achieving accreditation “is yet another sign of the excellence of our nursing programs and faculty,” said Dr. Joseph E. Zimmer, acting university president, provost and vice president for Academic Affairs at St. Bonaventure. “We look forward to preparing ethical nurses in the Franciscan tradition for many years to come.”
