Article by SBU's Belfield results from Franciscan Institute research

Mar 14, 2025

An article by Dr. Andrew Gertner Belfield, assistant professor of Theology and Franciscan Studies, was published in volume 82 of Franciscan Studies, a peer-reviewed journal of the Franciscan Institute at SBU.

This article, "Hypostases in Christ and the Work of Scholastic Christology: the Summa Halensis and Albert the Great's Commentary on the Sentences," examines Albert the Great's and the Summa Halensis's different reasons for identifying a second, human hypostasis in the incarnation and draws some conclusions about what these different reasons reveal of the larger project of scholastic Christology.

Belfield's study, along with two other articles published in the same volume of Franciscan Studies, is among the first publications resulting from the "Bonaventure as a Reader of Albert" research group, an initiative sponsored by the Franciscan Institute.
