Mar 09, 2020

Lacey Johnson will share lessons she’s learned from 15 years of marketing in the vice industries at 3:30 p.m. Friday in the Walsh Center Auditorium at St. Bonaventure University.

Johnson’s talk is sponsored by the Foster Center for Responsible Leadership in SBU’s School of Business. Johnson, who's worked in the alcohol and tobacco industries, will discuss:

  • Starting a career in marketing: Stories from the trenches; the many facets a marketing career can take; what you can expect on entering a career in marketing; and advice on how you can steer your career/
  • Ethics in marketing: Learning how to make smart choices and learning to navigate personal ethics in tandem with organizational ethics. It’s a challenge that every professional will cross, whether they are working for a vice company or not.
  • Understanding your personal values: Balancing those values with your professional career is an essential learning curve for young professionals.
  • Challenges she encountered as a mixed-race woman in an industry dominated by older, white men.

The talk is sponsored by the SBU chapter of the American Marketing Association.

The William C. Foster ’62 Center for Responsible Leadership strives to educate and inspire leaders in business and society.

Since its establishment in 2016 and under the guidance of Dr. Michael Gallagher, the center has been committed to serving the students of St. Bonaventure with a focus on ethics and responsible leadership.

To continue development of the center, Jessie Osborne has joined the team as the new Director of Outreach. Osborne’s role will be focused on serving the business community and bringing leadership development opportunities to campus.

“An event like Lacey’s talk is just one of the many exciting things planned for the future of the Leadership Center,” Osborne said.

To stay in touch with upcoming events, the Foster Center will soon be launching a LinkedIn page that will host leadership-based content, development opportunities, events and plans for the future.
