St. Bonaventure University will celebrate the life of Martin Luther King Jr. with a program at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22, in the University Chapel, Doyle Hall. The public is invited.

The theme of the event is “What Does Justice Look Like?” and is based on King’s quote “True peace is not merely the absence of tension; it is the presence of justice” from his 1958 book “Stride Toward Freedom: The Montgomery Story.”

During the celebration, a number of university community members will share reflections on what justice looks like to different marginalized populations, especially those served by the university. Speakers will explore the Franciscan perspective on the word “justice.” Additionally, a new tradition will be celebrated in which two members of the SBU community will be honored with the inaugural Martin Luther King Jr. Justice Award.

The program will also feature performances by members of Chattertons, a university poetry club.
