CommDay, held in late April each year, is a chance to take a glimpse into your future, a chance to see what aspect of the broad field of communication might be something you’d like to think about. Maybe you’d like to look into being a sports broadcaster or a reporter, like one of the six Pulitzer Prize-winning journalists who went to St. Bonaventure.
A keynote talk, workshops and more

CommDay features a keynote address to students by a working communications professional. CommDay 2023's keynote was presented by Shannon Dan, executive vice president of Global Partnerships at the Association of Pickleball Professionals (APP), the first and largest pickleball league and the only tour sanctioned by USA Pickleball. The APP is majority owned by Intersport, where Dan, a 2001 St. Bonaventure graduate, has worked for 16 years, previously as head of innovation.
Following the keynote address is a series of workshops that help students improve their skills and explore the many career opportunities available to them.
CommDay 2023 featured interactive workshops on writing sports like a pro, advice on writing, improving publication photos, finding local news stories, what it takes to broadcast sports, how to combat disinformation, exploring public relations, and understanding media ethics.
There is also an optional CommPetition, allowing schools to submit work in several categories for judging by the Jandoli School of Communication. The CommPetition is run so that students from participating schools do not miss out on any CommDay activities.
Students have lunch in the university's Hickey Dining Hall, which is followed by optional afternoon activities: campus tours and a third workshop session.
