Jul 06, 2023

Nine members of the St. Bonaventure University community, including President Dr. Jeff Gingerich, attended the 2023 Symposium of the Association of Franciscan Colleges and Universities.

Held June 20-22 at Siena College, the symposium featured presentations by faculty members from the 22 members of AFCU, including six faculty members from St. Bonaventure.

  • Dr. Joe Coate, Dr. Heather McDivitt and Dr. Mike Gallagher discussed “Franciscan Principles and Servant Leadership: A Foundation for Decision Making and Community Building.”
  • John Stevens led a conversation on “How Covid Changed the World of Work.”
  • Dr. Paula Scraba’s presentation, “Show the World What Opportunity Can Do,” talked about the impact of Title IX and how it relates to the Franciscan commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.
  • Dr. Andrew Belfield’s presentation was titled “Illuminating Franciscan Sources in the Classroom: Francis, Clare, and Beyond.”

Fr. Stephen Mimnaugh, O.F.M., vice president for Mission Integration, and Dr. Elizabeth Gratz from the School of Business also attended the symposium.

“We encourage other members of the university community to consider attending and presenting at the next AFCU Symposium,” Scraba said. “It is a tremendous opportunity for collegiality with colleagues from other Franciscan universities to exchange ideas and build upon each other’s programs to provide a quality experience for our students in the Franciscan tradition.”

The Foster Center for Responsible Leadership in SBU’s School of Business was one of the sponsors of the symposium.
