School Leadership – Prequel (EDL 501) requires attendance at class meetings and completion of professional projects. The course provides a broad perspective on the administration of public schools in a setting that requires analysis of current issues and policy, as well as reflection and critique of the myriad roles of a school administrator.
The course serves as an introduction to successful skills (Professional Standards for Educational Leaders 2015) in Educational Leadership, as defined by Standards for School Leaders.
The administrative internship in year two of the graduate program provides significant opportunities for candidates to synthesize and apply the knowledge and practice and develop the skills identified through substantial, sustained, standards-based work in real settings, planned and guided cooperatively by the institution and school district personnel.
The Leadership Institute is a partnership of the Cattaraugus-Allegany BOCES, its component school districts, St. Bonaventure University and the University of Rochester. Enrollees in EDL 501 who are then interested in pursuing an Educational Leadership degree can do so at either institution and receive credit for the course toward their graduate degree.
