Dr. Kathryn J. Andrews, assistant professor of childhood education, published an article titled "Nature’s Role in Young Children’s Everyday Science Learning: A Case Study" in Children, Youth and Environments, a biannual, peer-reviewed academic
journal.
This research explores nature’s role in what a young child counts as science.
Andrews notes: The pandemic presented one of the biggest challenges to classroom learning in the history of our education system as academic learning was physically displaced from schools across the nation. As a result, we were reminded of the need to
seriously integrate nature-based learning into instruction and provide students with the much-needed connection to the outdoors and a new perspective on learning.
