Schilling publishes study on superintendent resilience
Dr. Nicole Schilling, professor of Educational Leadership, recently published an article in the Journal of Educational Administration titled “Superintendent Resilience: A Qualitative Exploration of Resilience Leadership Skills.” Read the article here.
This study explores how P-12 school district superintendents demonstrate resilience while leading through significant challenges. Drawing on interviews with superintendents across the Midwest, the research identifies how leaders navigate adversity and move from survival to growth. The article underscores that superintendents face immense pressures but often emerge stronger by reframing setbacks as opportunities for learning and renewal.
The study also offers practical insights for superintendent preparation programs and school boards, encouraging targeted professional development and mentorship that cultivate resilience-focused leadership.
