St. Bonaventure University faculty and students are once again inviting the public to “Fall in Love with Science” and explore the science behind their food, health and community.

A number of interactive programs will be featured during the “Fall in Love with Science” event from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, at the Lincoln Park pavilion in downtown Olean. Many of the activities will be particularly interesting to students in K-12. It is free and open to the public.

Activities include:

  • Enzymes and Metabolism in Action, presented by the SBU student chapter of the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
  • Chemistry of Color at Home, presented by the university’s Department of Chemistry
  • 3D-Printed Prosthetic and Thermoplastic Splint, presented by the Student Occupational Therapy Association, Rehabilitation Today, and Cattaraugus-Allegany-Erie-Wyoming BOCES
  • Guesstimation Games, presented by the SBU Math Club
  • Hazards in Your Community and How to Avoid Them, presented by the Cattaraugus County Health Department
  • Make and Take with Science, presented by STEM Adolescence Education students at SBU
  • Brain Games, presented by the SBU Psychology Club

This is the fourth year the event has been held.

“‘Fall in Love with Science’ is an idea born from the community and features collaborations between businesses within the community and SBU faculty and students,” said Dr. Xiao-Ning Zhang, professor of Biology and director of the Biochemistry program. “During the event, we share the fun in STEM with the community. It is a way we give back to the community.”

The event is sponsored by the Southern Tier Satellite Center of WNY STEM at St. Bonaventure University. For more information, email Zhang at xzhang@sbu.edu.
