Dr. Daekyun Oh, assistant professor of physical education, presented research at the National Academy for Health and Physical Literacy (NAHPL) National Summit, held March 6-9 in Newport, Rhode Island.

The NAHPL is a diverse and inclusive organization advancing the dimensions of health and physical literacy through professional development, advocacy, mentoring, and applied research in the areas of health, physical education, dance, and sport.

Oh's research, titled "Exploring Meaningful Characteristics of Virtual Teacher Professional Development," examines the use of virtual professional development (VPD) for physical education teachers and identifies meaningful characteristics of effective VPD.

With a qualitative case study design, he developed five themes as findings: (a) it looks like in-person, (b) providing useful resources ahead of time, (c) hands-on experience, (d) the more examples, the better understanding, and (e) that’s what I want. During the presentation, Oh also provided implications and final thoughts along with the limitations of the current study.
