President DePerro decries violence in Washington, D.C.

Jan 6, 2021, 21:34 by Thomas Missel
The violence that erupted today in Washington, D.C., is unconscionable.
The violence that erupted today in Washington, D.C., is unconscionable. This nation has a long history of an ideological divide, but we’ve always prided ourselves on a peaceful transition of power even in the most contentious of times. This isn’t outrage expressed over deep-rooted injustice. It’s an attack on the most revered democratic process in the world.

The foundation of our government is the unequivocal respect for the will of the people and their voice has been heard. The travesty perpetrated today in Washington is a broadside attack on our liberty and the fundamental values of American democracy.

On behalf of the university, I join with all those on both sides of the political aisle who strongly condemn those people who would perpetrate such a heinous attack on our nation.

Peace and all good,
Dr. Dennis R. DePerro
University President
