Dr. Chris Mackowski, professor of Journalism and Mass Communication, recently published a pair of biographical sketches in "The Commanders of Antietam," the newest publication from the Antietam Institute. The pieces highlighted Confederate generals Stonewall Jackson and the irascible D. H. Hill.
Mackowski also had a 6,000-word article published in Crossfire, a magazine published by the American Civil War Roundtable of the U.K. “Stories from Spotsy” features some odds and ends that Mackowski has collected since the fall publication of his book "A Tempest of Iron and Lead: Spotsylvania Court House, May 8–21, 1864."
Additionally, on Jan. 8, Mackowski participated in a virtual book talk hosted by The Friends of Grant Cottage, stewards of the building where General and President Ulysses S. Grant died, which is a New York state historic site. The group hosts a book club that was reading "Grant at 200," which Mackowski co-edited with Frank Scaturro in 2023 to commemorate the bicentennial of Grant’s birth. Mackowski sat in on the club’s discussion of “Moments of Contingency and the Rise of Grant,” a chapter he wrote for the book.
