Dooley receives Royce Award for Loyalty to philosophy society

Dr. Patrick Dooley, professor emeritus of Philosophy, received the Royce Award for Loyalty to the Society for the Advancement of American Philosophy (SAAP). 

The society promotes scholarship and teaching in the diverse areas of American philosophy, including the work of such notables as C.S. Peirce, William James, John Dewey, Josiah Royce and George Santayana. Royce is regarded as the leading figure in exploring the virtues of loyalty and community formation.

Dooley edited the society's newsletter for 20 years.

In addition to teaching at SBU for some 36 years, he taught at the United States Air Force Academy, and in Nanyang, Singapore, as a Fulbright scholar and distinguished visiting professor.
