Old Bridge Singers to present ‘It’s Time to Pow Wow’ Nov. 2 at St. Bonaventure University

Oct 23, 2019

The public is invited to learn more about Native American heritage and culture during an upcoming pow wow at St. Bonaventure University.

The university’s School of Arts and Sciences will host Old Bridge Singers, who will present “It’s Time to Pow Wow” at 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, in the Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts on Campus. There is no charge to attend, but tickets are required and will be available at the Quick Center Box Office a half-hour prior to the show.

A pow wow is a joyous celebration in which different tribes gather in a social atmosphere. It is an expression of culture and an opportunity for non-Native Americans to learn and celebrate.

The Nov. 2 event will feature a variety of Native American dances from across North America and include champion performers from the pow wow trail. Master of ceremonies Dennis Bowen will comment on the traditions and introduce the dances and dancers.

In addition to the pow wow, members of the Seneca Nation will also be conducting a daylong workshop for university faculty that day, organized by Dr. Oleg Bychkov, professor of theology at St. Bonaventure.
