Hindman wins Association for Play Therapy research award

Apr 28, 2022

Dr. Margaret Hindman, assistant professor of counselor education, was awarded the Association for Play Therapy (APT) 2022 Student Research Award.

The honor stems from Hindman's most recent article, "The adult public’s perception of the utility of play therapy," which is based on her doctoral dissertation. See International Journal of Play Therapy, 31(1), 34-45: https://doi.org/10.1037/pla000...

The award, revealed this week on the Play Today virtual platform, will be announced in the June edition of Play Therapy magazine.

At APT's annual conference, in October, Hindman will be presented with a plaque, $1,500 to assist with conference attendance, and a one-year APT professional membership.

Hindman was also invited to join the APT Research Committee, which consists of 16 members who serve the 7,500-member association.

Additionally, Hindman was a co-presenter for a virtual poster session at the 2022 American Counseling Association Conference. Titled "Developing counseling identity, leadership skills, and cultural humility through play therapy advocacy in course work," the session was sponsored by Chi Sigma Iota, the international and professional academic honor society for counseling students, counselor educators, and professional counselors
