Classes for the Spring 2021 semester will begin for undergraduate and in-person graduate studies (excluding the Physician Assistant program) on Monday, Jan. 25.  Vaccination status does not impact the requirements below.

These student return guidelines follow CDC guidelines and the interim guidance from New York State.

NOTE: Students who have already had COVID-19 who have questions about a possible waiver for pre-arrival testing MUST CONTACT healthservices@sbu.edu or 716-375-2352.

Return Procedure for RESIDENTIAL STUDENTS from New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Vermont & CDC Level 1 Countries:
 
• All on-campus students MUST get a COVID-19 molecular or antigen diagnostic (not an antibody) test completed within 7 days of your return to campus. Please contact your primary care provider or your local county or state Department of Health to help you get tested. You may also visit https://coronavirus.health.ny.gov/find-test-site-near-you.
 
• Students will not be issued their room key for the Spring 2021 semester unless a negative test is posted to the health portal at this link: https://sbu.medicatconnect.com

• MOVE-IN SCHEDULE & CHECK IN LOCATIONS: Students who are not required to quarantine can return to campus and check in between on Saturday, January 23, or Sunday, January 24. Last names A-M can check in between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. and N-Z between 2 and 7 p.m. Spring 2021 room assignments will determine check in location:

• Residents of Robinson, Falconio, and Doyle Hall -  Richter Center
• Residents of Devereux, Shay, and Loughlen Hall -  Quick Center for the Arts Atrium
• Residents of Francis, Townhouses, and Garden Apartments -  Hall of Fame Room in the Reilly Center

Return Procedure for RESIDENTIAL STUDENTS NOT from New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Vermont & All International Students from CDC Level 2 and Above Countries (including Canada): 

The university will provide students who are required to quarantine a number of options, each listed below. SBU will send a survey to all students impacted under a quarantine order on Thursday, January 7, 2021. Students will have five days to complete the survey and let the university know how you plan to meet the quarantine requirement. 
 
Quarantine Options:
 
Option 1: Test-Out Quarantine (RESIDENTIAL STUDENTS ONLY)

• Arrive on campus on Monday, January 18, between noon and 4 p.m.
   
• If students can’t arrive on the SBU campus on January 18, they will need to select either Option 2 or 3.  

• Option 1 includes an on-campus room assignment at no charge. If the student has a university meal plan (Platinum, Gold or Silver), food will be provided to students at no charge. If a student does not have a meal plan, they will need to bring enough food with them for the quarantine period. 

• Students taking advantage of Option 1 will need to take a COVID-19 molecular or diagnostic (not an antibody) test within 72 hours (three days) of your arrival to New York state. When you receive those results, you will need to upload them to your health portal https://sbu.medicatconnect.com 

• If you have received a test on or after January 15 but have not received the result, you can still return to campus to begin your quarantine on Monday, January 18.

• Upon arrival to campus, Department of Health guidelines state you must quarantine for a minimum of three full days from the time of arrival (Tuesday, January 19, through Thursday, January 21).

• After three days of minimum quarantine, students will then be retested on campus Friday, January 22. If your second test is negative, you will fulfill the current New York state “test-out” quarantine period to exit quarantine. Students can’t leave quarantine until they provide documentation of two negative tests.

• If your second test is positive, you will be moved to an isolation room on campus for 10 days.  

Option 2: Quarantine at a Local Hotel for 10 Days (No Test-Out Option)

• The university will not provide the test-out option for students taking advantage of Option 2. Hotel costs are the responsibility of the student. No meals will be provided by the university.  

• Students will need to provide their own transportation back to campus after the quarantine period for themselves and their belongings. Students cannot come to campus for housing or classes until 10 days of quarantine have been completed. 

• Students taking advantage of Option 2 will still be required to get a COVID-19 molecular or antigen diagnostic (not an antibody) test completed within 7 days of your return to campus. Per current guidance, you can leave quarantine to obtain a COVID-19 test. When you receive those results, you will need to upload them to your health portal https://sbu.medicatconnect.com
 
Option 3: Quarantine with Friends/Family in New York for 10 Days (No Test-Out Option)

• Students can secure quarters with New York family or friends for quarantine at their own expense. The university will not provide the test-out option for students taking advantage of Option 3. 

• No meals will be provided by the university. 

• Students will need to provide their own transportation back to campus for themselves and their belongings after the quarantine period. Students cannot come to campus for housing or classes until 10 days of quarantine have been completed. 

• Students taking advantage of Option 3 will still be required to get a COVID-19 molecular or antigen diagnostic (not an antibody) test within 7 days of your return. Per current guidance, you can leave quarantine to obtain a COVID-19 test. When you receive those results, you will need to upload them to your health portal https://sbu.medicatconnect.com

Return Procedure for OFF-CAMPUS/COMMUTER STUDENTS from New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Vermont: 
 
• All off-campus students MUST get a COVID-19 molecular or antigen diagnostic (not an antibody) test completed within 7 days of your return to campus. Please contact your primary care provider or your local county or state Department of Health to help you get tested. You may also visit https://coronavirus.health.ny.gov/find-test-site-near-you. 

• Students will not be able to attend classes until a negative COVID-19 test is uploaded to the health portal at this link: https://sbu.medicatconnect.com

Return Procedure for OFF-CAMPUS STUDENTS NOT from New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Vermont & All International Students from CDC Level 2 and Above Countries (including Canada):

Option 1: Test-Out Quarantine (COMMUTER/OFF-CAMPUS STUDENTS ONLY)

• Arrive in New York state on Monday, January 18. 

• If students can’t arrive to New York state on January 18, they will need to select either Option 2 or 3.  

• Students taking advantage of Option 1 will need to take a COVID-19 molecular or antigen diagnostic (not an antibody) test within 72 hours (three days) of your arrival in New York state. When you receive those results, you will need to upload them to your health portal https://sbu.medicatconnect.com

• Upon arrival to New York state, Department of Health Guidelines state you must quarantine for a minimum of three days from the time of arrival (Tuesday, January 19 to Thursday, January 21).

• After three days of minimum quarantine, students will then be retested on campus Friday, January 22. • Students cannot come to campus for housing or classes until 10 days of quarantine have been completed.  

• Students taking advantage of this option will be required to get a COVID-19 PCR or molecular test completed within 7 days of your return to campus. Per current guidance, you can leave quarantine to obtain a COVID-19 test.  

• When you receive those results, you will need to upload them to your health portal https://sbu.medicatconnect.com You will not able to attend classes or come to campus until you have a negative COVID-19 result uploaded. 
 
Option 3: Quarantine with Friends/Family in New York for 10 Days (No Test-Out Option)

• Students can secure quarters with New York family or friends for quarantine at their own expense. The university will not provide the test-out option for students taking advantage of Option 3. 

• No meals will be provided by the university. 

• Students will need to provide their own transportation back to Olean/Allegany for themselves and their belongings after the quarantine period. Students cannot come to campus until 10 days of quarantine have been completed. 

• Students taking advantage of Option 3 will still be required to get a COVID-19 molecular or antigen diagnostic (not an antibody) test completed within 7 days of your return. Per current guidance, you can leave quarantine to obtain a COVID-19 test.  When you receive those results, you will need to upload them to your health portal https://sbu.medicatconnect.com 
 

Additional Action Items: 

• Students who have tested positive for COVID-19 within 12 weeks prior to their arrival are required to upload their previous positive test result into your health portal https://sbu.medicatconnect.com

• As of today and current guidance, a past positive does not exempt you from any of the above requirements. 

• All students traveling from impacted locations are REQUIRED to complete the New York State Traveler Health Form.  Students will also be required to sign a St. Bonaventure University attestation, confirming they have complied with quarantine requirements, upon arrival to campus. 

• Students should be checking their Notice Board, campus email, and Medicat messages daily as state and CDC requirements are changing frequently.
