St. Bonaventure’s run to the medal round of the national Collegiate Hockey Federation Cup ended Monday afternoon with a 6-1 quarterfinal loss to 7^th-seeded Binghamton.

The 15^th-seeded Bonnies (20-3), who saw their 15-game winning streak snapped, fell behind 3-0 after being outshot 17-6 in the first period.

SBU cut the lead to 3-1 on a power play goal from Mike Rappa midway through the second period, but Binghamton added two more goals in the period to put the Bonnies in a hole too deep to escape from in the third.

The Bonnies outshot Binghamton, 17-12, over the last two periods and generated numerous quality scoring chances, but could only get one puck past goalie Adam Bloodgood.

Despite the disappointing end to the season, the Bonnies’ coach couldn’t be prouder.

“Twenty and three is a record I could only dream of when I took over as coach five seasons ago,” said Taylor Rosenberg. “These guys persevered through so much and fought hard to the last second. You never want to lose in a playoff, but we didn’t go down without a fight.”

The Bonnies defeated East Carolina, Penn State-Harrisburg and SUNY-Farmingdale over the weekend to emerge from pool play in qualifying for the medal round.

“I don’t think it helped that we had an all-out battle with the No. 2 team in the country (Farmingdale) the night before, with less than 24 hours to recover and reload to play the 7^th-ranked team in the country,” Rosenberg said. “We’re so proud of the guys to get here and win our pool. We especially want to thank our seniors. The program wouldn’t be where it is without all that they’ve done.”
