Thirty-two St. Bonaventure University students who earned graduate and undergraduate degrees this year were inducted into the university’s Xi Nu chapter of Kappa Delta Pi, the international honor society in education, in a virtual ceremony held May 14.

 

With more than 1.2 million members, Kappa Delta Pi advocates leadership, service and scholarship while providing its members with a network of support throughout their careers. Membership is determined by academic performance and service.

 

St. Bonaventure’s Xi Nu chapter works to promote education and support teachers in the Olean area by collecting classroom supplies for students and teachers. Other projects have included preschool literacy activities, a Books for Babes project, and a Halloween “Trunk of Treat” event in which young children and their families engage in a variety of hands-on activities.

 

Presiding at the induction ceremony were Dr. Lisa Buenaventura, dean of the School of Education; Dr. Pamina Abkowitz and Dr. Kathryn Andrews, assistant professors of childhood education; Elizabeth Cashing, adjunct instructor in the adolescence education and educational studies programs, as well as student teacher supervisor; and Molly Pra Sisto, a graduate assistant in the School of Education and Kappa Delta Pi member who earned her master’s degree in inclusive special education this year.
