Branco, Gay and Mason present at association conference

Nov 18, 2022

Drs. Susan Branco, Jan Gay and Nathaniel Mason, professors of counselor education, presented at the Southern Association of Counselor Education (SACES) conference in Baltimore, Maryland.

Branco collaborated with Dr. Whitney Swann, former SBU counselor education core faculty member, now at Capella University, on a poster presentation based on an article titled "Moving towards an anti-racist curriculum: Student and counselor educator advocacy." The article, on which current SBU counselor education students Sara Karges and Lizzie O'Leary collaborated, was published in the Journal of Technology in Counselor Education and Supervision: https://digital.sandiego.edu/tces/vol2/iss2/12/

Mason and Branco co-presented "Building a comprehensive virtual residency: One program's journey."

Gay, along with Dr. Erin Mason and Adrianne Robertson (Georgia State University) and Nkenji Clarke (Penn State), co-presented on the topic “Antiracist school counselor preparation: Expanding on the transforming School Counseling Initiative.”

During the conference's graduate student session, Gay served on a panel that addressed perspectives of a counselor educator. The panel consisted of new faculty members, clinical, tenured and nontenured faculty members representing different programs.

Additionally, Branco presented a program titled "Adoption-informed mental health counseling: Supporting adoptee consciousness" at the American Mental Health Counselors Association's Nov. 10 Fall Summit to promote National Adoptee Awareness Month.
