ESPN’s Wojnarowski, ’91, honored with place on Jandoli School Wall of Distinguished Graduates

Oct 18, 2019

Just minutes after speaking to students at his alma mater, Adrian Wojnarowski returned to the grind in an empty classroom next door, breaking the news that NBA rookie sensation Zion Williamson would be sidelined for a few weeks with a knee injury.

That relentless dedication to his craft is why Woj, class of 1991, was inducted onto St. Bonaventure University’s Jandoli School of Communication Wall of Distinguished Graduates two hours later.

“So much of my personal and professional life has been shaped by what I learned here and the relationships I made here,” Woj said, choking up as he spoke about his wife, Amy, Hellinger Award winner from the class of 1992.

Wojnarowski was the 20th alumnus to be honored on a wall that includes Dan Barry, ’80, of the New York Times, Victoria Corderi, ’79, former NBC News reporter, and Chris LaPlaca, ’79, senior vice president of corporate communications at ESPN.

Wojnarowski, ’91, joined ESPN in 2017 as its Senior NBA Insider.

He has transformed NBA newsbreaking and reporting across the past decade-plus and is central in ESPN’s multimedia coverage of the NBA throughout the year. His reporting, insights and analysis appear on ESPN.com and in the ESPN app, and he’s a frequent contributor on a number of ESPN programs.

Wojnarowski hosts "The Woj Pod," which regularly delivers the biggest stars and newsmakers in the NBA. Wojnarowski also hosts “The Woj Report” on ESPN’s Youtube page.

His peers voted him the National Sports Media Association’s Sportswriter of the Year in both 2017 and 2018.

Wojnarowski is the New York Times best-selling author of “The Miracle of St. Anthony: A Season with Coach Bob Hurley and Basketball’s Most Improbable Dynasty.”

Prior to his work for ESPN, Wojnarowski worked for Yahoo Sports, where he spent nearly 10 years, including two as editor of The Vertical. His standout career in journalism includes nearly 10 years at The Record of New Jersey, where he was twice named the APSE Columnist of the Year, as well as several years each at The Fresno Bee and The Waterbury (Conn.) Republican-American.

Last week, at the university’s annual Hellinger Awards in New York City, Wojnarowski was honored as the Jandoli School Alumnus of the Year.
