St. Bonaventure University

St. Bonaventure University is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, a voluntary, nongovernmental, regional membership association that assures students and the public that its member institutions meet rigorous and comprehensive standards. The university’s next self-study review will take place in October 2023; public comments can be submitted to the Commission via an online form.

School of Arts & Sciences

Biochemistry Program

Our biochemistry program, part of the School of Arts & Sciences, is accredited by the American Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB), a prestigious, internationally recognized organization with more than 12,000 members worldwide. St. Bonaventure students are eligible for ASBMB scholarships and awards, as well as a host of other benefits, making SBU students more competitive in the job market or when applying for graduate and professional programs.

School of Business

St. Bonaventure's School of Business is among an elite group, having achieved accreditation of its bachelor's and master's degree programs in business from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. Accreditation represents the highest standard of achievement for business schools, worldwide. Institutions that earn accreditation confirm their commitment to quality and continuous improvement through a rigorous and comprehensive peer review.

Jandoli School of Communication

The Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communication recognizes Jandoli School programs for meeting its high standards, a distinction shared by only 110 of nearly 500 journalism and mass communication programs in the nation. The ACEJMC accreditation covers the Jandoli School's undergraduate programs in journalism, strategic communication, sports media, and broadcast journalism, as well as its graduate programs in integrated marketing communications and strategic leadership.

School of Education

As a small liberal arts university, we're particularly proud to have achieved accreditation from the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP), an internationally recognized accrediting body for educator preparation.

CAEP advances excellent educator preparation through evidence-based accreditation that assures quality and supports continuous improvement to strengthen P-12 student learning. Institutions that have gained CAEP accreditation have met national standards in areas such as content and pedagogical knowledge, clinical partnerships and practice, candidate quality, recruitment and selectivity, program impact on P-12 students, and provider quality, continuous improvement and capacity.

We're equally proud of our accreditation by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) for entry-level programs in clinical mental health counseling and school counseling. CACREP accredits master's and doctoral degree programs in counseling at colleges and universities throughout the world, assuring they meet or exceed national standards.

School of Health Professions

Nursing Programs

The RN to B.S. in Nursing and Dual Degree in Nursing programs at St. Bonaventure University is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (http://www.ccneaccreditation.org).

Officially recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education as a national accreditation agency, the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) is an autonomous accrediting agency, contributing to the improvement of the public's health. CCNE ensures the quality and integrity of baccalaureate, graduate, and residency programs in nursing.

Physician Assistant Studies Program

The Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant has granted accreditation-provisional status to St. Bonaventure's physician assistant program. This accreditation status is granted when the plans and resource allocation, if fully implemented as planned, of a proposed program that has not yet enrolled students appear to demonstrate the program’s ability to meet the ARC-PA standards, or when a program holding accreditation-provisional status appears to demonstrate continued progress in complying with the standards as it prepares for the graduation of the first class (cohort) of students. Accreditation-provisional does not ensure any subsequent accreditation status. It is limited to no more than five years from matriculation of the first class.

Occupational Therapy Program

The entry-level occupational therapy master’s degree program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) of the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA), located at 6116 Executive Boulevard, Suite 200, North Bethesda, MD 20852-4929. ACOTE’s telephone number c/o AOTA is (301) 652-AOTA and its web address is www.acoteonline.org. Graduates of the program will be eligible to sit for the national certification examination for the occupational therapist administered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT). After successful completion of this exam, the individual will be an occupational therapist, registered (OTR). In addition, all states require licensure in order to practice; however, state licenses are usually based on the results of the NBCOT Certification Examination. Note that a felony conviction may affect a graduate’s ability to sit for the NBCOT certification examination or attain state licensure.
