Master's in birth-grade 12 literacy


St. Bonaventure University literacy student reading to childThis Master of Science in Education (M.S.Ed.) in Literacy degree program, offered 100% online, is designed for certified teachers who wish to acquire a master’s degree to teach birth to grade 12 literacy.

You earn your master's degree in one-year, 33-credit-hour, online program.

This program leads to a Master of Science in Education (M.S.Ed.) in Literacy Education Birth to Grade 12 degree and a recommendation for Birth to Grade 12 Literacy Certification in New York state. This degree equips you with the skills and versatility to teach in a number of areas, such as a reading specialist, a literary coach, or as a K-12 literacy certified classroom teacher.

The heart of the program content includes professional clinical experience and learning to assess and diagnosis reading abilities, culminating in a 50-hour practicum experience that may be completed online or in-person.

This one-year, 33-credit-hour, online graduate program in literacy includes:
  • methods and theory designed to have your students fall in love with reading
  • training in reading assessment and teaching reading strategies
  • in-person or online practicum experience
  • preparation for the NYS literacy certification exam
     
  • Working full time and need more time? 

    For students who need a lighter course load we also offer a two-year completion timeline. The program director can assist students with a step-by-step plan to graduation.

    Hauser is elected secretary of the Zonta Club of Olean

    Nov 14, 2019 Dr. Rene' Hauser, associate professor in the School of Education, has been elected secretary of the Zonta Club of Olean.

    Zonta is an international advocacy organization that empowers women through engagement and service. Zonta International is currently focusing its efforts on eliminating child marriage and ending violence against women. Zonta holds a seat on the United Nations. 

    Zonta Club of Olean, serving the Olean area, participates in many service projects, including raising thousands of dollars annually to support local breast cancer patients and working with other agencies to send birthing kits to women in Uganda.
