Mackowski is the first up in new Grant College speaker series

Oct 06, 2022

Dr. Chris Mackowski, professor of journalism and mass communication, spoke as the first-ever presenter in the new Literary Landmark Speaker Series at Ulysses S. Grant Cottage National Historic Landmark.

Grant Cottage, located atop Mt. McGregor in Wilton, New York, is where the former general and president spent the last six weeks of his life, finishing his memoirs just days before his death on July 23, 1885.

Mackowski’s talk, “The Myth of Grant’s Silence,” looked at the wealth of documentary evidence Grant left, despite his reputation for being a “silent man.” The talk, presented on Saturday, Sept 24, on the porch of the cottage, was livestreamed by the Friends of Grant Cottage on their Facebook page.
