			PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND

			ACCOMPLISHMENTS

My recent publications include journal articles about 19th-century English poets Elizabeth Barrett Browning and Felicia Hemans and book chapters about medieval writer Dante Alighieri and contemporary American writer Maxine Hong Kingston. Since 2005 I have presented over 20 papers on literary topics at state, regional, and national conferences.

			CURRENT RESEARCH INTERESTS/PROJECTS

Jane Austen and Charlotte Bronte continue to be two of my favorite writers, and I'm always searching for new ways to approach their novels. I'm also intrigued by the cultural history of Roman Catholicism in England, from the times of the Tudors to the present day, especially by the covert presence of Catholicism (and anti-Catholicism) in so many classic works of English literature.

			PERSONAL INTERESTS/COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

My interest in words and in academic competition has led me into the vibrant subculture of grownup spelling bees. I won the 2014 National Senior Spelling Bee in Knoxville, Tennessee, and I continue to be involved with that organization as a board member and bee pronouncer.
