Dr. Zhang and five students author peer-reviewed paper in journal

Dr. Xiao-Ning Zhang, professor of biology and director of the biochemistry program, and five undergraduate students, three of them recent graduates, co-authored a paper published in the Sept. 19 edition of Frontiers in Plant Science, a leading journal in its field.

The student authors include 2019 graduates Sam Chen, a bioinformatics major from Buffalo, and Tim Rooney, a biochemistry major from Syracuse; Anna Hu, a junior biochemistry major from Greensburg, Pennsylvania; Leann Mangalath, a junior biology major from Northport, New York; and 2018 graduate Jordan Powers, a biochemistry major from Lakewood, New York.

Their paper is titled "Quantitative proteomics reveals a role for SERINE/ARGININE-RICH 45 in regulating RNA metabolism and modulating transcriptional suppression via the ASAP complex in Arabidopsis thaliana." Their work was done in collaboration with Dr. Bret Cooper's research group at the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service.
