Orientation leaders getting ready to welcome incoming freshman class to the #BonaFamily

Jul 02, 2019

St. Bonaventure University’s Orientation Team is ready to welcome the class of 2023.

Of the more than 500 incoming freshmen this fall, almost all will come to campus for one of three orientation sessions being held this month (July 11-12, 15-16 and 18-19).

“Orientation is an informative and interactive way for students to prepare for their journey as a Bonaventure student,” said Sarah Barnard, assistant director of the Student Success Center.

Among an array of workshops, academic meetings and other various activities that orientation offers, incoming students learn everything about life, academics and support at St. Bonaventure.

“After high school, I didn’t have much direction,” said Ethan Pryor, a junior orientation co-coordinator. “Orientation was the reason I came to St. Bonaventure and is why it resonates so much with me. I hope we can have a similar impact on the freshmen this year and I can’t wait for them to get here.”

Orientation is not only for students, however. Parent and family orientation, which is administered by two parent leaders, runs simultaneously with the student schedule.

Parents and family members will gain a better understanding of the place they are sending their sons and daughters by attending meetings with professors, advisers and other faculty members.

“The orientation program is when students officially become a part of the Bona family,” Barnard said. “This is the time to learn and get excited about academics, as well as discover their purpose for the next four years.”

The freshmen will return to campus Aug. 22 for Welcome Days. Classes begin Aug. 26.
