SBU’s nursing programs receive CCNE accreditation for 10 years

May 27, 2026

St. Bonaventure University’s undergraduate nursing programs have received reaccreditation for the maximum 10-year term from the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), extending accreditation through June 2036.

The accreditation applies to the university’s baccalaureate nursing degree offerings, including its Dual Degree Nursing Program with Jamestown Community College and its RN to Bachelor of Science in Nursing (RN to BSN) program.

The CCNE Board of Commissioners approved the accreditation action during its April 21-24 meeting following a comprehensive evaluation process that included an on-site review in September 2025. In its findings, the board determined that St. Bonaventure’s nursing program “substantially complied with all four accreditation standards” and identified no compliance concerns related to key elements of the program.

“This wonderful news is just proof that we are on the right track with our nursing programs,” said Connie J. Perkins, Ph.D., RN, CNE, founding director of Nursing in St. Bonaventure’s Dennis R. DePerro School of Health Professions. “The nursing programs have seen growth and we’ve continued to improve them to meet accreditation and industry standards, meet student needs, and ensure that Bona Nurses are ready to serve their communities while here and upon graduation.”

St. Bonaventure launched its nursing programs to help address critical workforce shortages in healthcare throughout Western New York and beyond.

The Dual Degree Nursing program with JCC allows students to earn an associate degree in Nursing from Jamestown Community College after year three of the program before completing their bachelor’s degree at SBU in year four. Students take classes at JCC — mostly in years two and three — to earn their associate degree at the same time they are working toward their bachelor’s degree at St. Bonaventure.

The RN to BSN program provides working registered nurses with a flexible pathway to advance their education and professional opportunities.

CCNE accreditation is recognized nationally as a benchmark for quality and integrity in nursing education. Accreditation evaluates areas including mission and governance, institutional commitment and resources, curriculum and teaching practices, and program effectiveness.

The accreditation decision reinforces the university’s continued investment in preparing highly skilled, compassionate nursing professionals grounded in St. Bonaventure’s Franciscan values of service and care for others.

St. Bonaventure’s next scheduled CCNE on-site evaluation will take place in fall 2035.
