Poet and critic Laura Jaramillo to read from her work Oct. 16

The St. Bonaventure University community is invited to a reading by poet and critic Laura Jaramillo at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, in Plassmann Hall, Room 11.

LAURA JARAMILLOSt. Bonaventure student Luka Galle, a senior in Entrepreneurial Studies in Graphic Design developed through the Individualized Program, will also read from her work.

Born to Colombian parents in Queens, New York, Jaramillo now lives in Durham, North Carolina. Her books include “Material Girl” (subpress, 2012) and “Making Water” (Futurepoem, 2022). Her work has a distinctly international emphasis, with her poems and criticism appearing in both English and Spanish language journals.

Jaramillo holds a Ph.D. in Critical Theory from Duke University. She co-runs the North Carolina-based reading and performance series Paradiso.

Also on the 16th, Jaramillo will also lead a generative writing workshop at 11:30 a.m. in Plassmann Room 10.

Her visit to campus is sponsored by the Visiting Scholars Committee and the Department of English.
