Jan 21, 2025

Five players from St. Bonaventure’s women’s rugby team have been selected to play in the Collegiate Rugby All-Stars Women’s 7s National Cup.

The tournament, featuring all-star teams from 10 leagues across the nation, will be held Jan. 25-26 at Silverbacks Park in Atlanta.

The Bonnies selected will be competing for the Upstate New York Collegiate Rugby Conference All-Stars, coached again this year by SBU’s Meredith Pyke. Pyke will also coach the UNYCRC Rising Stars team at the tournament.

Makenna Ramsey, a two-time All-American and the Bonnies’ leading scorer, will be making her fifth trip to the National Cup. Other Bonnies selected are Ashlee Reid (fourth trip), Kaylee Middaugh (fourth), Natalie Lamar (second), and Mia Popp (first).

The games will be streamed on either the National Collegiate Rugby YouTube page or The Rugby Network.

The UNYCRC All-Stars are scheduled to play three games on Saturday — 9:46 a.m. (stadium field), 11:41 a.m. and 3:31 p.m. (both Field 2) — and one game Sunday at 9:09 a.m. (stadium).

Championship and consolation bracket semifinals and finals will immediately follow the conclusion of pool play. Rugby 7s games are 14 minutes long, split into two halves.
