If you’re into art, theater, music or dance, you’ll find something to love when The Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts at St. Bonaventure University and the Tri-County Arts Council team up to present QCA Collage, an open house showcasing visual and performing arts programming at the Quick Center on Saturday, April 20.

Activities will take place in the Quick Center from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

“QCA Collage was planned as a collaboration between faculty and students in the Department of Visual and Performing Arts and the Quick Center,” said Evelyn Penman, QCA assistant director and senior curator. “We wanted to showcase all that is going on in the Quick Center and the talented students who participate in extracurricular music, dance, theater and vocal activities.”

Events include an art exhibit, demonstration and sale by local artists, hosted by the Tri-County Arts Council, an advocate for art creation and appreciation in Cattaraugus, Chautauqua and Allegany counties.

Quick Center galleries and common spaces will bustle with musical and dance performances, demonstrations, and hands-on activities.

In the Dresser Foundation Gallery, theater, voice and music students and faculty will present theatrical and musical performances inspired by the gallery’s paintings. Performances are at 11:30 a.m., 12:25 p.m., and 1:20 p.m.

The quick Center's Rigas Family Theater will host a number of performances throughout the day:

• 11 a.m.: Dancer's Loft dancers
• 11:30 a.m.: SBU Dance Team
• 1 p.m.: SBU Concert Band
• 1:30 p.m.: SBU Jazz Band
• 2 p.m.: SBU Choir

Participants will be able to paint their own masterpiece from the University Art Collection and visit the Asian Gallery to make origami animals. There will also be a pottery exhibition and a pottery-throwing demonstration.

Airigami, of Rochester, New York, a team of artists who create large-scale installations, illustrations, and experiences entirely out of balloons, will enlist the help of attendees to create a balloon mural.

In addition, local caricature artist Eric Jones, who has grabbed headlines across the region with his sand and snow sculptures, will draw people’s caricatures from 1 to 2:30 p.m.

“There truly will be something for everyone, children to adults, at the QCA Collage and we encourage all art enthusiasts to join us,” Penman said. 

Dr. Rachel Harris, executive director of the Quick Center, said the event underscores the center’s mission.

“This collaborative program is designed to express our commitment to the vitality of the arts within our university and community, along with our dedication to creating an atmosphere on our campus where heart meets mind,” Harris said.
