Questa, Clingan named interim co-Directors of Athletics at St. Bonaventure

Questa and ClinganBarb Questa and Ryan Clingan have been named interim co-Directors of Athletics, St. Bonaventure University President Jeff Gingerich announced Monday morning. 

The university’s Executive Deputy Director of Athletics and Senior Woman Administrator, Questa is in her 33rd year as the senior member of SBU’s athletics administration team. Clingan was named St. Bonaventure’s Senior Executive Deputy Director of Athletics in fall 2023.

“I have great confidence in the leadership of Ryan and Barb to continue to navigate the ever-changing landscape of the NCAA and to support Bonaventure athletics, most importantly our student-athletes,” Gingerich said.

Questa and Clingan replace Joe Manhertz, who stepped down from the position on Friday. The university will launch a search immediately for a new Director of Athletics, Gingerich said.

This is the sixth time Questa has served as interim AD, most recently in 2021. After spending 15 years as the Senior Associate Director of Athletics, she was promoted to Deputy Director of Athletics in 2013. She was promoted to Executive Deputy Director of Athletics in 2022.

In her role, Questa is involved in all aspects of day-to-day operations of the department including budget approval, human resource initiatives and strategic planning. She has direct supervision over the department’s finances and is integrally involved with the External Relations team.

As the longest tenured SWA in the Atlantic 10 Conference, Questa has served on numerous committees during her 32 years in the conference.  She currently co-chairs the Women's Lacrosse Committee and serves on the Sports and Competition Committee.

Questa also oversees three sports, is the departmental liaison to a variety of university offices, and serves on a number of internal committees including the university’s Board of Trustees Committee on Athletics.

She continues to serve as the university’s NCAA Senior Woman Administrator, a title she has held since she began her tenure in 1992. Questa has previously held the positions of Assistant Athletic Director, Associate Athletic Director, and Senior Associate Athletic Director.

Questa received her Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education from Temple University in 1988. In 1992, she earned her Master’s of Education from Temple with a concentration in Sports Administration.

Clingan was named St. Bonaventure’s Senior Executive Deputy Director of Athletics in Fall 2023. Clingan has served in a number of different roles since arriving at St. Bonaventure as the Senior Associate Athletics Director for Compliance in December 2018 from the University of Maryland. 

In his current role, he oversees internal and external operations for the Athletics Department. He is also the program administrator for men’s basketball.

A native of Emporium, Pennsylvania, Clingan joined the staff at Maryland in 2012, and was twice promoted within their compliance department. As the Director of Compliance, Clingan oversaw multiple Big Ten/ACC conference champions, as well as five National Championship teams. Prior to Maryland, Clingan had stops at East Carolina and Florida State University. 

He earned his undergraduate degree from Point Park University in Pittsburgh, and a Master’s Degree in Higher Education Administration from Florida State University.
