St. Bonaventure Criminology Club to sponsor SBU Criminal Justice Day on campus

Sep 04, 2023

The Criminology Club at St. Bonaventure University will hold its first-ever SBU Criminal Justice Day on campus on Friday, Sept. 15. The event will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Richter Center and on the adjacent parking lot between Richter and Reilly centers.

The day is an opportunity for the entire campus community, particularly students, to interact with local, county and state law enforcement officers and criminal justice representatives. There will be information tables, demonstrations and more. The event is for the campus community and is not open to the public.

“SBU Criminal Justice Day came out of discussions with Criminology Club members who wanted to learn more about our local law enforcement community,” said Dr. Andrew Dombek, a lecturer in the Department of Sociology and Criminology at St. Bonaventure, and club adviser. He organized the event with Dr. Samantha Gavin, assistant professor of sociology and criminology.

“This is an opportunity for our local law enforcement community to present themselves to our Bonaventure community. We think the result will be a greater understanding among all participants and additional opportunities for more involvement,” Dombek said.

Participating organizations and agencies include the Olean Police Department, New York State Police, Cattaraugus and Allegany County Sheriff’s Offices, Cattaraugus County Court, Cattaraugus County Public Defender’s Office, State Supreme Court, Cattaraugus County Jail, Cattaraugus County Probation Department, Cattaraugus County District Attorney’s Office, and the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (parole officers). Also on hand will be representatives of St. Bonaventure’s Mock Trial teams and the Office of Admissions.
