Chris Brown, executive director of the Student Success Center and HEOP, presented on a panel titled "Faith, Hope, & Love: LGBTQ Allyship at Minority-Serving & Faith-Based Institutions." 

 

The virtual event, held March 16, was hosted by N4A, the National Association of Academic and Student-Athlete Development Professionals. 

 

Brown was one of five panelists, representing three HBCUs and two Catholic universities, invited to discuss strategies, challenges, and opportunities in advancing mission-based support for LGBTQIA+ students.

 

Brown also presented at the regional conference of the Association for Orientation, Transition, and Retention in Higher Education, held March 10-12 at Cornell University. His presentation was a part of the Returning Orientation Leader Institute, a training program for student leaders who have peer supervisory responsibilities. 

 

Brown's presentation, "Searching for a Place to Belong," discussed the responsibility of orientation and transition programs to foster a sense of belonging in college. The workshop emphasized strategies to enhance belonging for first-generation, underrepresented minority, and marginalized students.
