Podcast, talks spotlight Civil War strategy and legacy

Dr. Chris Mackowski, a writing professor in the Jandoli School of Communication, appeared on the American History Hit Podcast on March 19. He spoke about the December 1862 battle of Fredericksburg, the largest of the Civil War by number of combatants. Chris MackowskiOn March 21, Mackowski was an invited presenter for the Central Virginia Battlefields Trust’s Spring Seminar. His talk, “Strike Them a Blow: Missed Opportunities Along the North Anna River,” focused on an overlooked part of the Civil War’s 1864 Overland Campaign.

Rewinding a century, Mackowski also assisted the Adams Memorial Foundation on a project highlighting the contributions of John Adams and his family for a traveling exhibition. The Adams Memorial Foundation is the Congressionally designated entity charged with planning and creating a memorial for the Adams family in Washington, D.C.

Mackowski’s latest book is titled “Atlas of Independence: John Adams and the American Revolution.” He recently gave talks about the book at the Adams County Historical Society in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, the Holland Land Office Museum in Batavia, New York, and on campus.
