Lees spotlight journalist Patricia Kennealy-Morrison at symposium

Sep 10, 2025

Jandoli School of Communication faculty members Anne and Richard Lee presented at the Mid-Atlantic Popular & American Culture Association’s Virtual Symposium on July 27.

Their presentation, “Checking into Mrs. Morrison’s Hotel,” explored the life and work of the late Patricia Kennealy-Morrison, a pioneering journalist who studied journalism at St. Bonaventure in the early 1960s and was known to be among the first women to have a successful career covering rock ’n’ roll. She later developed advertising campaigns and wrote novels for her two fiction series. She spoke and wrote fondly of her time at St. Bonaventure and how the journalism program and its founder, Dr. Russell J. Jandoli, were instrumental to her success.

The Lees joined the symposium from their summer roles with the Francis E. Kelley Oxford Program, housed at Trinity College, University of Oxford, and discussed whether Kennealy-Morrison’s accomplishments were overshadowed by her romantic relationship with Jim Morrison, the lead singer of the Doors. Students in Anne’s Women, Minorities & the Media course and Rich’s Media & Democracy course assisted with research for the presentation.
