Tom Missel, SBU's chief communications officer, won a pair of awards from the Catholic Media Association for cover stories he wrote for Bonaventure magazine in 2024. 

Missel won first place in the Best Profile category for the story he wrote in the Summer 2024 magazine on Kevin Murphy, ’01, founder of Ocean Cure, a nonprofit dedicated to improving the quality of life for people with challenges and disabilities through surfing. He also received honorable mention in the Best Social Justice category for the cover story in the Winter 2024 magazine on the history of the Warming House and its 50th anniversary.
