Henry explores weight-inclusive health care in encyclopedia chapter

Aug 22, 2025

Dr. Heidi Henry, assistant professor of Counselor Education, authored a book chapter titled “Health at Every Size” that was published in The Encyclopedia of Mental Health Trainings, Certifications, & Credentials.

Henry, Heidi, 2022 sizedThe book, edited by Bill Owenby and Katherine Campbell, provides a comprehensive overview of more than 600 modalities, trainings, certifications, credentials and degrees related to mental health training.

Henry’s chapter examines the Health at Every Size (HAES) framework, tracing its evolution from 1960s body liberation movements to its current form as a weight-inclusive health care approach that prioritizes wellbeing over weight loss and addresses anti-fat bias in medical settings. The chapter addresses HAES principles, implementation challenges, research support, and the qualities health care providers need to deliver compassionate, equitable care to people of all body sizes.
