Dr. Chris Mackowski, professor of Communication, has been awarded the Scottsdale Civil War Roundtable's 2024-25 Ed Bearss Memorial Award.

The award was established by the Scottsdale Roundtable in 2021 in memory of Civil War historian and preservationist Ed Bearss, who appeared at the Roundtable for 20 consecutive sessions. It recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to Civil War history and the preservation of battlefields and other significant Civil War sites, as well as to Civil War memory.

"Chris has made an enormous contribution as a historian and preserva-tionist," Mark Stoler, Roundtable president, said. "Between his writing, speaking, the founding of Emerging Civil War, and his role in preservation, Chris’ boundless energy and enthusiasm provide an outstanding example for all those who share an interest in promoting the importance of understanding and preserving the memory of America’s Civil War."
