New York Theatre Ballet to perform at SBU’s Quick Center

The New York Theatre Ballet (NYTB), an acclaimed chamber-size ensemble in the world of dance, will perform at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 17, at St. Bonaventure University’s Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts.New York Theatre Ballet peforming 'Firebird,' by Richard Termine

This is the third presentation in the 2024-2025 performance season at the Quick Center.

The NYTB will present Stravinsky’s “Firebird,” selections from Tchaikovsky’s “Nutcracker,” and a new work titled “Minetta Creek,” choreographed by Gabrielle Lamb with music by violinist Pauline Kim Harris. The magical experience will captivate audiences of all ages.

The troupe will also offer “come as you are” masterclasses on Saturday, Nov. 16, for community members and SBU students interested in learning more about ballet. Classes will be held on the lower level of Butler Hall and will begin at 10 a.m. for community members and 2 p.m. for students. The classes are free, but registration is requested.

Founded in 1978 by artistic director Diana Byer, and now led by artistic director Steve Melendez, NYTB has featured cutting-edge programming and an ever-expanding repertory. They have received several awards and honors, including the National Endowment for the Arts Award and the Governor’s Arts Award.

The troupe is committed to making high-quality, professional dance an easily accessible art form. Their mission is carried out in the work of the Professional Company, its Ballet School, and its LIFT Program. These divisions reach adults and family audiences across the country, building a love for dance and diverse audiences for the future.

The NYTB performance is presented in association with the Tri-County Arts Council. 

Quick Center galleries will open one hour before the performance and remain open throughout the intermission.

Tickets are $20 for adults, $18 for senior citizens and SBU employees, and $5 for students. Tickets can be purchased online or by calling the Quick Center at (716) 375-2494.
