Campus community invited to watch eclipse Monday

Apr 05, 2024

Members of the Bonaventure community are invited to gather in the quad between Plassmann Hall and the McGinley-Carney Ministry Center Monday afternoon to watch the solar eclipse.

The event runs from 2 to 4:30 p.m., with the partial eclipse beginning at 2:04 p.m. and ending at 4:34 p.m.

Eclipse totality on campus will occur at 3:20 p.m., with a duration of approximately 13 seconds. The event will be held regardless of the forecast.

The farther north and west you travel in the totality zone, the longer totality will last, but anyone choosing to do so should be aware that traffic could be congested; more than 1 million visitors are expected to visit Western New York. The eclipse centerline runs through Buffalo and Rochester.

The first 700 students will receive glasses to safely view the eclipse. The first 275 students will receive SBU eclipse T-shirts.

Mid-afternoon treats will be offered at the event, including Sun Chips, Milky Way bars, Moon Pies, half-moon cookies, and Starburst.
