Dr. Sheri B. Voss, assistant professor of literacy in the School of Education, was awarded one of 35 scholarships to attend training in June by the Keys to Literacy program. The training will explore the science of reading as applied to adolescent literacy.
The scholarships, available only to teachers in the U.S., with a preference for those working with minority and low-income students, were made possible by a donation from Boon Philanthropy.
Voss said it is an exciting opportunity to be a part of cutting-edge research to further educate graduate teacher candidates.
The Keys to Literacy mission aligns with the St. Bonaventure B12 reading literacy program's belief that the ability to read and write is the foundation for all learning and essential for a fulfilling and impactful life, and that culturally responsive literacy instruction is a critical equity issue.
