Scherer, Mason, Smith and Luedke present at conference

Oct 20, 2023

Drs. Rebecca Scherer, Nathaniel Mason and Nate Smith, assistant professors of counselor education, and Dr. Ashley Luedke, associate professor and program director (from left in photos above), had a proposal accepted for presentation at the biannual Association for Counselor Education and Supervision conference held in Denver, Colorado, Oct. 11-15.

Their presentation was titled "I Noticed and I'm Concerned: Monitoring Professional Dispositions in an Online Counseling Program."

This presentation examined the existing literature regarding best practices in monitoring professional dispositions, detailing how one large online counseling program (approximately 350 students) carries out this process while centering principles of ethics and diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Counselor educators and supervisors have an ethical responsibility to monitor the professional dispositions of students and supervisees (American Counseling Association). In addition, the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) requires all accredited programs to have a formal process in place for reviewing students’ professional dispositions.
