St. Bonaventure faculty, MBA accounting students present papers at Business Research Consortium

Three students from St. Bonaventure University’s 150-hour Professional Accountancy MBA program presented papers at the 14th annual Business Research Consortium of Western New York Conference, held May 27 in Toronto.

The BRC, founded in 2006 by five AACSB-accredited schools in Western New York, including St. Bonaventure, fosters research opportunities and networks for pioneering research in business. St. Bonaventure last hosted the conference in 2015.

  • Ryan O’Connor, ’18 and ’19, presented “Baseball, Fraud and Data Analytics: A Classroom Exercise Illustrating Data Analytics,” co-authored by Dr. Joe Coate, professor of accounting.
  • Danielle Vis, ’18 and ’19, presented “Data Analytics and the Professional Accountant,” co-authored by Coate.
  • Eileen Proto, ’18 and December ’19, presented “The Top 10 Building Blocks for Understanding Blockchain: What Faculty Should Communicate to Business Students.”

St. Bonaventure faculty members John Stevens, Dr. Mike Gallagher, Dr. Todd Palmer and Dr. Laurie Branch, a university trustee and adjunct instructor, also presented at the conference.

  • Stevens presentation was “Test Taking in Teams: Why This Is a Good Idea.” Grace Garlick, ’18 and ’19, worked with Stevens on his research, but was unable to attend the conference.
  • Gallagher presented on “Integrating Video Learning in a Traditional Classroom.”
  • Palmer, Branch and alumnus Reed McElfresh, ’13 and ’14, gave a presentation on “Using Information Visualization as a Means to Generate Student Interest in Business Analytics: A Case Study.”
